These Models Without Makeup Are Gorgeous
While social media and the quest for the perfect selfie have consumed most of the world, there is still something about a no-makeup look. Healthy, natural, and glowing skin is just unrivaled.
There is a confidence that comes with owning and loving your beauty, without layers of makeup. And the key to the perfect no-makeup selfie is good skin, and no one knows that better than our favorite models. While we all know it is their job to maintain good skin, we should all take achieving good skin a bit more seriously.
These days, it is easy to just cover up our problems with the wonderful world of concealers and the like, but there is no comparison to healthy, radiant skin that speaks for itself. Problems with the skin can usually be tracked to something bigger. Whether it be hormonal imbalances causing acne or sunspots due to lack of sunscreen, it’s time we pay attention to those imperfections and hear what they are trying to tell us.
Whether we are still suffering from that dreaded acne—or maybe it’s cracked, dry skin that has you down—I feel your pain. Taking care of our skin is so important; after all, it is our body’s biggest organ.
From making sure we are hydrated to using the right products, we break down our top tips for achieving a stellar complexion so you can perfect the make-free selfie, just like our favorite models.
How to achieve flawless skin
Ditch the quick fixes
We’re not here to judge. We’ve done more time than we can count, too. But it certainly is time to invest in a long-term skincare routine versus those products claiming a quick fix. Just as diet pills and fasting don’t work to achieve long-term weight loss results, we cannot expect to fix our skin overnight. Keep reading for the things to consider when building the ultimate skincare routine.
Hydration is key
We know how key hydration is for all-around health, but somehow we still fall short. I mean, eight glasses of water really isn't that much, but between the endless cups of coffee and Zoom meetings, I cannot be the only one who needs this reminder.
Drinking enough water is also important in achieving radiant, healthy skin. If you’re having a hard time getting in those ounces try adding lemon or cucumber for some extra flavor. Additionally, try eating your water in foods such as cucumbers, pineapples, and oranges.
Use natural products
Switching to more natural products, versus chemical-laden skincare, could be the switch your skin needs. Using ingredients such as organic oils or green tea extract are formulated using the ingredients’ natural benefits to create perfect skincare products.
Find a good moisturizer
Not all moisturizers are created equal and not all moisturizers are good for all skin types. My skin completely changed when I finally found the right moisturizer for my skin type.
I have naturally very oily skin and have struggled with acne since my teenage days. Because of this, for years I didn’t even use moisturizer. I figured, my skin already has so much oil why would I add more? Turns out that is not the right approach.
So, in my case, a dermatologist had recommended a lotion that was non-comedogenic and also has acne-fighting components to it to keep my oily under control during the day, and it made all the difference. If you have extremely dry skin, try looking for a lotion with natural hydrating like avocado or shea butter.

Create a nighttime routine, too
For years, I focused on my morning routine. I got the sunscreens, the moisturizer, the natural makeup, the toner, everything. But at night, I simply washed my face.
When my esthetician asked me about my nighttime routine, she was kinda shocked that I spent all this time in the morning but not at night. She introduced me to the world of eye cream and retinol, and my skin has never looked better.
We love this retinol from Biossance.
The combination of squalane and phyto-retinol works to produce firmer, brighter, and more balanced skin.
Look at your diet
The way to good skin is paved through a healthy diet. Your skin is your biggest organ, so again, issues with your skin are probably pointing to a bigger issue within your body.
Most of this can be solved by taking a look at your diet. A good rule of thumb is to stay away from refined sugar, excess salt, fried foods, meat, eggs, and dairy. All of these foods have been linked to inflammation and other issues in the body which can translate to issues in the skin.
Wear that sunscreen
I spent my youth out in the sun and I am definitely paying for it now so I stress to everyone the importance of sunscreen. Wear it—all the time, please.
Dark spots and skincare are real, and wearing good, high-quality sunscreen every day (yes, even when it’s cloudy) will help your skin looking amazing as you age. Keep a little bottle in your purse so that you can apply it when needed. Planning ahead is key to good skin.

Always, always wash your face
Have you gone to bed without washing your face more time than you can count? It’s time to make a promise to your skin that you never will again. Make a point to wash your face, massage in the lather for at least 30 seconds. That’s how long it takes to clear all the dirt from the day. Also, be sure to use medium-temperature water as that is the best for skincare.
Additionally, be sure you are using a good exfoliator about once per week. This helps to remove layers of dead skin cells and dirt that come to block your pores, which therefore blocks your skin’s natural glow. However, be sure you are not exfoliating too much as that can irritate or dry out the skin, introducing a new wave of problems.
Don’t skip the morning wash
It’s easy to understand why washing at night is crucial for clean, skin but washing your face in the morning is just as important. Not only does our skin naturally get dirty through the night with exposure to air and pollution, but products from our hair can get onto our face as well. A nice, gentle wash during your morning shower will help reset your skin for the day and also help wake you up.
On that note, be sure you are washing your pillowcase often. Again, products from our hair, etc can get on the fabric and make their way to our skin during the night.
Clean your phone
If you are seeing pimples along your cheekbones, you may need to consult your phone. Since phones are always in our hands, they pick up a lot of bacteria that can get transferred to our skin when we make a phone call. Get in the habit of wiping your phone screen with an antibacterial wipe as often as possible.
