The Perfect 10-Minute Morning Beauty Routine 

Are you a morning person? Do you wake up feeling ready to hit the ground running—no snooze button, no coffee, no complaining? If so, consider yourself a bona fide unicorn.

Most of us move at a (rather grumpy) sloth’s pace in the morning—even with that snooze button and a couple of cups of coffee. But whether you’re a morning person or not, we all need that perfect morning beauty routine, right?

Here’s how to get the glow up in the morning without spending too much time looking like you spent your whole morning getting gorgeous.

Step One: Sleep

First things first: how much did you sleep? If you’re burning the candle at both ends, your face may be the first place to show it. Sleep is critical. And without a solid night’s rest, most everything else loses its relevance pretty quickly. Aim for seven to eight hours a night. If you have trouble getting in the mood for sleep, try a natural sleep aid like melatonin or GABA to relax you. You can also use calming essential oils like lavender or chamomile to help you sleep. Most important: stick to a sleep routine. Try to get to bed at the same time every night. Turn off your screen an hour or so before bed. Read, meditate, stretch. Give your body a few weeks to adjust and see if you don’t look and feel a whole lot better with a sleep routine.

Step Two: Hydrate

Drink water. I keep a glass by my bed so that drinking it is the first thing I do in the morning. Hydration is important for so many reasons, but especially for our skin! It flushes out toxins and can help deliver that morning glow. It’s especially important first thing in the morning, but also make sure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day, too. Try adding a squeeze of lemon for extra detoxification.

Step Three: Cleanse

I like a gentle oil cleanser on the face first thing because I am most certainly not a morning person. You may want to start your skincare routine with a splash of cold water on your face (though I would rather die). Cold water tightens pores and may make your skin feel softer. You can follow that up with an oil-based cleanser like Opagee’s Rosehip Oil Beauty Blend, featured in a recent Kinder Beauty box. Rosehip seed oil is excellent for sensitive skin and this oil will leave your face feeling light and clean. If you need further cleansing, follow up with a water-based cleanser like Andalou’s Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk. It removes grime without leaving your skin feeling stripped or dried out.

Step Four: Toner

Honestly, I could tone my face like 95 times a day. I’m a compulsive spritzer and I’m proud of it. Here in Los Angeles, it’s always a good time to tone. Whether it’s to abate the 100-degree summer days or do away with the dusty air that leaves my face feeling a bit bleh, I love a good toning mist. There are some fancy and delicious smelling toners out there like the Gypsy Soul Organics Face Toner featured in the June 2020 Kinder Beauty Box, but you don’t need to go that fancy. A simple spritz of witch hazel works really well, too. For a little extra, add a few drops of tea tree essential oil.

Step Five: Serum

If there’s any step you’re thinking of skipping, don’t let it be the serum. Consider this the multivitamin for your face. Serums deliver all of the much-needed nutrients to give you that glow up. Step Six: Moisturize

Lock in all that moisture that you’ve worked so hard to get on your face in the first place. But not at all moisturizers are equal ... quite the contrary! The type of moisturizer you use will depend greatly on the overall state of your skin. For dry skin, go with something really rich like Dear Self’s Face Moisturizer (also great for any skin type in a super dry climate). Step Seven: Protect

You’ll be wasting all your time and money on steps one through six if you head out into the sun without any sunscreen on. Remember, this is an essential part of skincare!
