Vegan Chocolate Truffles to Gift Yourself on Valentine’s Day
I don’t know what your plans are for Valentine’s Day but I can tell you mine: Eating vegan chocolate truffles and bonbons pretty much beginning immediately after I finish my morning cup of coffee until I roll myself into bed later that night. This year, Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday, because we freaking deserve something nice, okay? It’s also the 11-month anniversary of quarantine for most of us, which here in LA, has hardly lifted since it started. So, yes, you better believe I’m diving deep into my cavity comfort zone. Sex and roses? Yeah, they can wait. This year, it’s all about vegan chocolate as emergency self-care.
Okay, so as much as I may make it sound like chocolate is little more than a cloying indulgence, the truth is, it’s got benefits. As in, bona fide, science-backed benefits. In fact, one of the reasons I’m so keen to stuff myself with it is because of the “bliss chemical,” anandamide. It triggers the same feelings as being in love. But, you know, without all the texting and apologizing. Sounding even better, isn’t it?
Chocolate is also an antioxidant powerhouse. Caveat that statement, though, because most chocolate is laden with dairy, which negates most of its positive health effects. And all that sugar isn’t the best for us either. But as one of the world’s most complex foods, for all the mucking and processing we do to chocolate, its soul stays intact. And that, my friends, is as good a reason as any to sink your teeth—and your heart—into chocolate this Valentine’s Day. Heck, you can even take your mask off for this one.
Check out these vegan truffles you’ve got to gift yourself this Valentine’s Day.
1. No Whey Foods
This unsuspecting box of handmade chocolate truffles is the perfect gift for the gal or guy who has trouble making decisions (hi there). It gives you a taste of everything, from the vegan “milk” fudge to the rich grand marnier to a coffee drenched truffle to die for. The boxes come in a variety of sizes, but when it comes to chocolate, you know the best rule of thumb is always bigger is much, much better.
2. Creek House Chocolates
Dive into decadence with the super dark, super rich truffles from Creek House. This assortment is filled with Berry Berry, Chili Mango, Creamy Hazelnut, and Dark Espresso flavors to tick and tingle all your chocolatey boxes. This stuff is incredibly fresh and perishable, so keep it in your fridge until you’re ready to enjoy.
3. Delafaille Belgian Assorted
Look, if you can’t name one other major feat by the Belgians besides waffles, beer, and chocolate, you’re (ahem) not alone. (It is a constitutional monarchy, though, which is pretty fascinating if you do want another reason to be in awe of Belgium.) But back to chocolate. What do those Belgians do with those little beans? So, when you get a chance to feast, which you most certainly should on this day of days, go Belgian. And dig into these decadent truffles in chocolatey ganache, coffee, and berry.
4. Cocomels Chocolate-Covered Caramels
I thought long and hard about leaving these off the list because they’re more caramel than they are chocolate. But that’s just what makes them so perfect. The creamy coconut caramel center buoys the chocolate to all the crevices of your mouth you didn’t know could be chocolate covered. They’re creamy, rich, and quite worthy of the truffle crown.
5. Compartes Vegan Chocolate Assortment
You should probably sit down for this one. Seriously. The Compartes assortment gift box is bursting with self-love goodness. Chocolate-dipped apricots, pretzels, pineapples, coconut, orange, almonds, pecans and more all just for you, from you. What’s better than that?
6. Lake Champlain Dark Chocolate Truffles
These rich and dreamy truffles in dark chocolate and raspberry get a creamy burst from coconut milk. It doesn’t just add that milky flavor you love in chocolate; it adds a texture that makes these truffles melt in your mouth. Take the box into bed, put on a rom-com, turn off your phone, and have yourself the best Valentine’s Day ever.
7. Rose City Chocolate-Covered Cherries
What would Valentine’s Day be without chocolate-covered cherries? These cordials are drenched in Belgian chocolate and hand-wrapped so you have yourself a little unboxing party with each bite. You might want to open a bottle of Champagne with these. And order an extra box, just in case you need to extend your special day a little bit longer.
