8 Cruelty-Free Household Cleaning Products You Can Buy Online

We’re living through strange times right now, and most of us are thinking about cleaning and disinfecting our personal space more than ever before. The good news is that you can watch out for your personal health along with the well-being of animals and the environment, all at the same time. There are tons of household cleaning products that are made with ingredients you can trust from companies that refuse to test on animals, and we’ve listed some of our favorites below. Oh, and you can order any of these products without even having to get off the couch. Happy (online) shopping!

1. Seventh Generation's Disinfecting Wipes

Seventh Generation is a popular line of cleaning products that you can grab from many chain grocery stores. The disinfecting wipes kill 99.99 percent of household germs using fresh botanicals, effectively cleaning and deodorizing in one step.

2. Citra Solv Degreaser

Citra Solv has a wide range of products, but the one that put this company on the map was the concentrated cleaner and degreaser. You can use it full-strength for tough jobs, or dilute with water for most of your cleaning chores. It removes chewing gum, grease, tar, lipstick, sap, adhesives, and even permanent marker.

3. Sunny and Honey Pet Stain and Odor Miracle

A quick Google search and you’ll find lots of places where you can buy Sunny and Honey products online, including on Amazon Prime. The stain and odor remover uses enzymes to clean up urine, feces, vomit, and drool. It’s safe for children and animals, and we love that the company donates ten percent of all profits to animal rescues.

4. Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Kitchen Set

Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day is also often found at major grocery retailers. All of its products smell amazing, and Mrs. Meyer's kitchen sets contain one of each: all-purpose cleaner, hand soap, and dish soap—all with the same luxurious aroma, so you can create a signature scent for your super-clean home.

5. Ecover Toilet Cleaner

While we partake in disinfecting our homes, let’s not forget about the porcelain throne. Ecover makes a great toilet bowl cleaner that’s made with renewable, plant-based ingredients, and is biodegradable. The company’s website lists the online retailers where their products can be purchased.

6. ECOs All-Purpose Cleaner

ECOs All-Purpose Cleaner comes in three scents, is hypoallergenic, and doesn’t contain any dyes, parabens, phosphates, or phthalates. The miracle product has been awarded the Safer Choice certification from the Environmental Protection Agency because its ingredients are considered the safest in their class, and the product has met high standards for performance.

7. Better Life Glass Cleaner

This is one of our favorite glass cleaners out there, and it’s affordable, too. This product may sound familiar because Better Life got its start on the popular reality show Shark Tank. The company is very transparent about the ingredients used in each product, which we love. You can order two-packs of the glass cleaner directly from the company’s website.

8. Method Antibac All-Purpose Cleaner

This handy product will clean surfaces while killing germs and bacteria and leaving behind a fresh scent. Method has a wide range of cruelty-free household products from hand soap to laundry detergent.

BONUS: DIY Multi-Surface Cleaner

  • ¼ cup of white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 liter of hot water
  • ½ a lemon

Mix ingredients together and apply to surfaces using a spray bottle or cloth and wipe away.

Before you go: For a full list of the CDC's recommended list of cleaning disinfectants, consult this list. Note that the above cleaners are most excellent for making your house shiny and clean, but do not necessarily meet the CDC's specific requirements for killing the COVID-19 virus.
