7 Cruelty-Free Blushes We’re Loving
Did you know that humans are the only animal capable of blushing? It’s true! Even back in 1872, Charles Darwin said that “blushing is the most peculiar and the most human of all expressions.”
While scientists are still uncertain of the exact reason why humans blush, it’s clear that there’s something inexplicably appealing about a healthy, post-workout glow. For centuries, people have experimented with various concoctions to achieve rosy cheeks. Those in ancient societies used berries, minerals, crushed beetles (also known as “carmine”—and totally not vegan or cruelty-free), and more.
Fortunately, nowadays there are tons of blushes out there in shades that compliment any complexion. But, buyer beware: not all blushes are created equal.
We know that animal testing is ineffective and cruel, but some makeup companies continue to pay for cruel animal experiments in order to sell in regions where it’s still required by law.
And remember that nasty ingredient called “carmine” that we mentioned earlier? Well, that’s still a thing, and it’s lurking in tons of cosmetics—especially blushes.
Don’t worry though; we’ve made it easy for you to get your glow on without hurting animals or putting dead bugs on your skin.
Here are 7 of our all-time fave blushes:
