6 Stunning Makeup Looks to Try in the New Year
Beauties, where did the time go?
Seems like only yesterday we were prepping for a 2-week-long (now 10-month-long) quarantine. Can you all believe it’s already almost New Year’s?
Whether you’re going to a masked party, staying in with the family, or attending a Zoom get-together, this New Year’s Eve is going to be one we’ll all remember. So, you have to make sure your makeup look is one to remember, too, right?
We’ve made a list of six different looks for you to try this year. Whether you mix and match or only choose one, all of these looks are sure to make you stand out this NYE.
Bold, bright red
‘Tis the season for bright red lippies.
Although a year-round staple in most beauty bags, red lipstick is the perfect way to spread a little holiday cheer during this time of year. And with different red tones to choose from, you can find the shade that best matches your skin tone and personality with ease. Whether you go for a vivid cherry-red, deep burgundy, or anything in between, you’ll look and feel fierce and ready to take on the night.
One of our favorite vegan red lipsticks is Emani Prismatic Lipstick in Captivated, featured recently in our Bewitching Boo-ty Box. This one is dual-toned—you can wear both shades alone or pair them together for an awesome ombre effect.
Another choice is Folly Fire Lipstick in Full House (our founder, Evanna Lynch, swears by this one!).
Glittery gold
New Year’s Eve is the time to go all-out with your makeup looks.
Gold glitter definitely makes a statement. It looks amazing on all skin tones, boosts your confidence through the roof, and makes your eyes pop. Since it’s so bright, it also adds dimension and drama to your eyeshadow look and catches the light beautifully. Not to mention, it’s a classic color for the holiday season.
Lay it on thick for full-on glam or lightly dust it for a subtle shimmer. Either way, you’ll be sure to turn heads wherever you go.
For a loose glitter, use Medusa’s Makeup Glitter in “Gold Digger”—be sure to use a primer with it so it stays put. (We at Kinder LOVE Medusa's, which is why they have been featured in our boxes!)
Silver shimmer
On the flip side, a simple shimmery silver can take your look up a notch in a more low-key way.
Easy to match with and less intense than gold, a silver shadow is perfect for those who want to take baby steps out of their comfort zone. Silver illuminates and brightens the eyes without overpowering them.
Go for loose powder eyeshadow, like Medusa’s Makeup Eye Dust (currently featured in our Kinder Faves Collection), for a milder silver shine. Grab the shade “Blow” for a lighter silver or “Silverado” for a darker, truer silver.
Dark and dramatic wings
On NYE, your wings will never be too intense.
Winged liner gives you an instant eye lift, making your eyes look bigger and younger in seconds. And there are tons of tools, like stamps, stencils, and DIY hacks, that make creating winged eyeliner easier than ever. Whether you wear it alone or with eyeshadow, it’s sure to draw attention to your gorgeous eyes!
ILIA Beauty’s Clean Line Liquid Liner is a great felt-tip liner to have on your side. The gorgeous midnight-black color comes from charcoal powder (as opposed to Carbon Black—a not-so-great ingredient to have near your eyes). It’s also water-resistant, so you can be sure it’ll stay on all day (or night) long.
Another clean beauty favorite would be 100% Pure's Long Last Liquid Eyeliner in Black Tea. Long-wearing and easy to apply, this liner is loved by anyone who uses it.
Pop of fun color
Go big or go home, right?
When paired with a monochrome outfit, a splash of color is an awesome way to make a statement on NYE. Go for a vibrant blue, a rich purple, a bright pink, or a gorgeous green to really stand out in a crowd. And if you want to take it to the next level, always go for glitter.
If you want to go for a bold blue, check out IBY Beauty’s Ocean Awakening Palette (we featured their shadow in our December 2020 box). This palette has a couple of different vivid shades, but is mostly full of diverse, beautiful blues. If you want to stick with one specific color, check out their Lush Eyeshadow singles—they’re not only gorgeous, but they’re affordable, too!
Spunky, sparkly gel
Now, this look is for those who are truly daring.
Glitter gel is a look all on its own. Whether you’re feeling super gutsy or just looking to switch up your look, there are tons of different colors to choose from—anything from soft silver to provocative pink. Some wear glitter gel on its own, some use it to create a bold line, some do interesting shapes … but no matter what style you choose, you’re guaranteed to be the center of attention with this bold makeup choice.
One of our favorite glitter gels is by PYT Beauty in shades Gold, Pink, and Iridescent. These shades are bright, adventurous, super-glittery, and very affordable.
This New Year’s will look a little different, sure. But that doesn’t mean we can’t get dressed to the nines and have some fun. Stay safe, healthy, and (as always) wear your mask!
